(4/7/2013) Oil on Canvas, 12 x 16 inches. This still life contains a violin and a small silver vase that contains a single rose. I wanted to make them very colorful, so I tweaked the colors and made the violin and vibrant orange and complemented it with blue. I like the contrast of using the black background as well, merging baroque and impressionist ideas to create a larger contrast between light and color. But the reason I called the painting "The Colors of Music" was because, in music, we sometimes give different sounds a color, which is another way of feeling a mood or emotion with specific sounds or chords in music. The rose shows the color of romance for example.
