Oil on Canvas, 24 x 36 inches. I haven\'t done a night scene since January..so I figure it was time to try another one. I also hadn\'t done a true snow, northern landscape. Yet, most of all I wanted to paint the northern lights. I really like this painting, personally one of my favorites now. But the point is how the lights move the darkness and replaces it with a mystic glow. There is a hunter with his dog standing on part of a mountain looking at the lights, dwarfed by the massive landscape around them and shadowed by the powerful lights above them. Also, the star were pretty interesting. To do those I got experimental and decided to splatter the paint onto the canvas, but then got a paper towel and dabbed certain ares including some more dark blue to the mix. Confusing and kinda gutsy cause it could of turned out horrible...but I think it looks alright and adds a little something unique. Anyway, I hope the painting is enjoyed, ha.
