A very expressive portrait: the nearly monochrome palette and the frown reflects his restricted, cheerless world. And the cross on his forehead rather seems to be a burnt mark than a sign of his consecrated position.

I think you read perfectly what I was trying to express :) (the cross was meant to be kind of a permanent Ash Wednesday mark)
